The County

The county of Östergötland is located in the south-eastern part of Sweden and constitutes the fifth largest county in Sweden, with 421 084 inhabitants. Linköping and Norrköping, situated 40 kilometres apart, are home to a majority of Östergötland´s inhabitants.

Several of Sweden´s major roads, rail and air routes pass within a few kilometres of Norrköping Port, which is one of Sweden´s most important ports. A number of international destinations are easily accessible from the local airports in Linköping and Norrköping.

More than half of the industrial workforce in Östergötland is employed in knowledge-intensive fields. The county is home to world-class research and product development in areas such as aviation engineering, telecommunications and soft-ware production. Several internationally well known companies, such as Saab, Ericsson, Siemens, Holmen Paper, BT Industries and Electrolux are based in Östergötland.
