The County Administrative Board of Västra Götaland

The County Administrative Board of Västra Götaland is one of 21 boards responsible for central government administration inclucing:

• ensuring that national goals are reached at county level
  
• coordinating different interests within the community from an overall national perspective
  
• promoting the county’s development
  
• watching over conditions in the county and keeping the Government informed
  
• granting permits and hearing appeals against municipal decisions within the Administration’s areas of responsibility
  
• exercising supervisory powers by checking that various bodies observe the law and guidelines
  
• acting as a service organisation and providing expert help for all who live and work in the county
  
• functioning as the authority for the Skagerrak and Kattegat Water District.

The County Administrative Board of Västra Götaland has a staff of some 720 based at seven locations in Västra Götaland: Göteborg, Vänersborg, Mariestad, Skara, Uddevalla, Borås and Lake Hornborga.

The County Governor and the Deputy Governor reside in Göteborg. Together, they constitute the management of the Administrative Board.
